COVENTRY: FIFTEEN YEARS LATER

It's been fifteen years since the shows at Coventry, billed to be Phish's last shows. Long-time fan Chris Pepino of True Form Pictures created a documentary film about Coventry and Phish fans traveling to it, We Enjoy Yourself, in 2004. It screened at the New Jersey Film Festival back in 2009, even winning Best Documentary at the festival that year. The complete film is now streaming live for free at weenjoyyourself.com.

If you've never listened to the music of Coventry, don't be shy. Those who attended the shows that weekend will never forget them; and this post partly explains why, and why there are a lot of good reasons to listen to the shows, warts and all.

mcgrupp81 The traffic jam was a good primer for the Apocalypse traffic.

cookphish Started watching the video at work, then wanted to listen to some of the shows first... The Runaway Jim > Jibboo was pretty awesome!

Ceviche_Mixto Mike's radio announcement @ Coventry reminds me of one year ago today, when the Bunny read the statement from the band to notify official cancellation of Curveball. We had flown in from across the country and driven several hours to arrive at our campsite (which was perfectly dry), finished setting up camp, sat down to crack and beer and prepare for an amazing weekend ... minutes later we received the news and were incredibly bummed and shocked.

But I realize that while Curveball really sucked, it doesn't remotely compare to the magnitude of Coventry. Being the 'last shows ever', compounded with a 30+ hour traffic jam and all the factors that are shown in the documentary must have yielded heightened emotions that are tough to fathom having not been there. The documentary helps depict the scene a bit more, but still tough to imagine what it must have been like ... one of those experiences that you wouldn't fully understand unless you were there.

greensuzyberg Seeing that brought back so many memories and emotions. Its pretty humbling - we were one of those parked cars and spent hours getting in 24+ i believe, but we did get in, others did not and had it so much more worse than we did. It was such an exhausting experience. I am so thankful phish is back playing music again. They seem happy and healthy and I am so excited to have my favorite band back touring and always feel so lucky for any shows I can catch these days.

Walter_Peck We left on the second night toward the end of the second set. After seeing those cars in the mud, I still believe that's one of the best decisions I've ever made. Our tent was flooded, so we slept in the car. Great weekend, though. I'll never forget it.

Banff Worst shit show ever! I wish they would burn all footage from this crap. I left after night 1 because realized people were dancing in pure shit & piss in the mud.
